Aziz returns to Iran after twenty five years of absence, some period of which he did spend in prison. He goes back to his old house his father left him when he died years ago. The ones who knew him in the neighborhood had the feeling that he had returned to Iran for the sake of his inheritance. On his arrival to Iran, though, Aziz meets a young man who has been arrested by the guards at the checkpoint. The arrested man who is prevented to call his relatives, gives Aziz a phone number and asks him to call his relatives to inform him of his arrest. Aziz meets two of his acquaintances who encourage him to sell his house that has now been turned into a restaurant by a woman named Atiyeh. She happens to be the girl Aziz was in love with and intended to marry. Due to the sudden disappearance of Aziz, Atiyeh had to marry and start a new life. She married but her husband was drowned at sea and she was left with a daughter. Atiyeh has since then been living with her daughter Touka and she runs the restaurant with two other women. Atiyeh feels anxious about Aziz's return because she is afraid of losing her restaurant . Aziz decides to inform the family of that young man of his arrest. The man is called Reza. Interestingly enough though, when he dials the number, he realizes that is it the same number as the restaurant and the lady who is to receive the news of the arrest is Touka. Little by little he realizes that what goes on between Reza and Touka is the same story that went on many years ago between him and Atiyeh. Aziz decides to live in a vacant room on the top of the restaurant. When he is living there, each of the women in the restaurant do their best to get to know Aziz and serve him the best food they can cook. After a call from Aziz's lawyer, though, Atiyeh is once again agitated and gives Aziz the cold shoulder next time she meets him. On the other hand. Reza accuses Aziz of hypocrisy and disloyalty. Aziz leaves the city and Atiyeh is finally convinced that Aziz's return to Iran was not for the sake of money and that he had not the least intention of selling the restaurant. Atiyeh also sees that Aziz's return has the beneficial result of the reunion between Touka and Reza. Atiyeh, in the end, starts looking for Aziz and tracks him by the signs left on a painting that belonged to Aziz's childhood home.
