After years of being confined in a hospice, Akbar Manafi, a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war now sells bus tickets to make ends meet. One day he sees a picture of his veteran friend, Yahya, and recalls the memories of war. Another friend of him from the war, Akbar, blames himself as the reason of Yahya’s death. But Yahya’s father, a flag maker, is quite sure that that’s not true, and in order to prove him wrong he takes Akbar and they visit two other veterans, Mohammad and Farhad. They both assure him that Yahya was martyred fighting the enemy. But Akbar still blames himself. Later on, Akbar finds the ex-commander of their mission, a chemically poisoned veteran named Ahmad Iravani, who unveils the truth. He tells them that during the mission in the southern canebrakes, Yahya got wounded by the enemy and they decided to continue without him and they asked Akbar to watch him. But Yahya insisted that Akbar should leave him there and help the other soldiers with the mission. So now after twenty years, Akbar believes that had he stayed with Yahya, he wouldn’t have died.
