Nafas, an Afghan immagrant from Canada who is a journalist, receives a letter from her younger sister in Kandahar, which shows her complete disappointment under the prevailing conditions in Afghanistan, and emphasizes that she would kill herself at the moment of the last total eclipse of the twentieth century. Nafas goes to Kandahar to save her sister. On the way, she meets a boy named Khak, who is willing to guide her to Kandahar in exchange of recieving 50 dollars. Nafas's journey continues, but she gets sick along the way and Khak takes her to a doctor called Saheb, who is actually a black American who has come to Afghanistan for years to fight with the Russians. Meanwhile, Nafas meets some men who have lost their legs in the civil wars. Finally she gets to Kandahar with the help of her friends. The eclipse is going to happen soon but Nafas is captured by Taliban officers and imprisoned. Living along with her compatriot women in a Taliban's prison is a lesson that she learns from the hard way.
