In 1983, in a women’s prison, women start a riot. Tahereh Yousefi, new prison warden interferes to bring back peace among them and finally forces them to give up by applying her strict rules. Tahereh gets into an argument with one of the prisoners, Mitra, who’s murdered her stepfather. Mitra, who has a great influence among the prisoners, does not bow to Tahereh’s orders and every time she is punished for something or other. Pegah, a young girl who is a close friend of Mitra and apparently has committed some political crime, is brought to be executed after performing a solo cello piece. When Iraq’s warplanes bombard Tehran and the city goes into complete darkness, one of the prisoners, who is pregnant, gives birth with the help of Mitra who was once a midwifery student. They name the child Sepideh. Ten years later, in 1993, they bring in a young girl named Sahar. The difference between now and before is that none of the past prisoners and warders are around except Mitra and Tahereh.
